Victimization of older Canadians, 2009 / by Shannon Brennan.CS85-002/32-3E-PDF

"Using data from the 2009 General Social Survey (GSS) on Victimization, this Juristat article examines trends in the victimization of older Canadians, namely those aged 55 and older living in the 10 provinces. In addition to examining the nature and prevalence of both violent victimization and household victimization against older Canadians, this Juristat article explores older Canadians' experiences of emotional and financial abuse and their experiences of Internet victimization. Finally, this study examines reporting of victimization incidents to police, the emotional and financial consequences of victimization, as well as older Canadians' perceptions of personal safety, their sense of community belonging, and their use of crime prevention methods among both victims and non-victims"--Page 6.
