"Operational research and systems analysis have developed to meet the changing needs of DND through the postwar years. Up to about 1965 the emphasis was on classical O.R. in field commands, studying operations and tactics, and systems analysis in the HQ in support of plans to procure new weapons systems. Since then there has been an increasing demand for analysis of logistics and manpower, and for research into strategic and economic problems. Recently, the large capital acquisition programs have re-established the need for systems analysis.
