"The Telemedicine Project was established to provide facilities for a Telemedicine Experiment, HERMES-U6, between a remote village nursing station (Kashechewan), a northern base hospital (Moose Factory General) and a health science center (University of Western Ontario). The objective of the experiment was to use a communications satellite to transmit audio-visual information for the purpose of practicing telemedicine. The project required the establishment of an organizational structure to design, install, maintain and operate facilities at all three locations to allow the investigation and evaluation of the delivery of health care to remote locations using the medium of satellite communications"--page 3.
