Second-order analysis of roll decay tests / Ross Graham - Andrew Webber ; approved by R.T. Schmitke.: D68-21/29-1991E-PDF
"A method for determining linear plus quadratic roll damping coefficients from roll decay tests that is believed to be accurate up to second order in the damping coefficients is described. Two computer programs are developed to estimate roll decay coefficients via chi-square fitting using first-order and second order analyses. The methods are applied to measured and simulated roll decay data, and excellent results are obtained with both codes. While the second-order results represent an improvement in both goodness-of-fit and accuracy compared with the first-order results, the latter are already so good that the improvement is considered to be of limited practical significance"--Abstract, page ii.
