Environmental aspects of phthalate esters / by CCIW Toxic Substances Group: A.S.Y. Chau, J. Coburn, W.A. Glooschenko, M.E. Fox, K.L.E. Kaiser, W.M.J. Strachan, J.D. Wiebe, P.T.S. Wong.: En36-540/13-1974E-PDF
"Phthalate esters are produced in large quantities and are widespread in their usage - being present in many plastic formulations. More and more reports are available of their being observed in environmental samples ranging from water and sediment through all levels of biota. It would appear that they are not especially toxic although sub-lethal effects have been little investigated. They also seem to be degraded within reasonable periods of time under natural environmental conditions"--Summary.
