"In computing, the “cloud” refers to computer servers and the software applications and databases that run on them, located in data centres all over the world. Users do not need to own, run, or maintain their own physical servers or software applications; they can use cloud servers and applications on demand, paying for only what they need. The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) released the Government of Canada Cloud Adoption Strategy in 2016 and updated it in 2018. It directs federal organizations to consider the cloud as the preferred option for delivering IT"--Background, page 3.
