"Following the 44th general election in 2021, recognizing the fact that many Indigenous electors continue to face barriers to electoral participation, Elections Canada decided to review how the agency engages with and delivers public education and electoral services to Indigenous communities. In 2022, the Indigenous Electoral Services Review (IESR) team began engaging with Indigenous peoples to better understand their realities. The team sought to better understand the barriers faced by First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples living in Indigenous communities and in urban settings and to discuss new possible solutions to reduce or eliminate those barriers for Indigenous electors who wished to participate in the electoral process"--Executive summary, page 6.
