Examples of inferences about the point of change in a regression model / S.R. Esterby, A.H. El-Shaarawi.: En36-539/104-1980E-PDF
"The purpose of this report is to provide full details of examples where were summarized in the paper "Inference about the point of change in a regression model" (Esterby and El-Shaarawi, 1981a). In the paper, methods are given for estimating the degree of the polynomial in each segment of the regression model and for making inferences about the point of change using likelihood functions; however, to conserve space, the examples were not given in full. The more detailed analysis of the examples given here brings out a number of aspects of the procedures which are of use to someone applying these procedures, but which were omitted in the paper. In addition, one example has been expanded and another added. The examples illustrate the applicability of the procedures to certain measurements on sediment cores, hydrological data and industrial data. The effects of the variability of the data relative to the size of the change and of the position of the change relative to the center of the sequence are also considered"--Abstract.
