"In three of the four Atlantic Provinces the forest resources constitute an important part of the provincial economy. In order to safeguard these resources from forest fires, various studies and programs have been undertaken during the past years. One aspect of forest fire control in the Atlantic Provinces has been the introduction of the Fire Weather Index. This Index is presently being computed during the fire season by the Fire Science Centre at the University of N.B. in Fredericton for the Canadian Forestry Service"--Introduction.
