"In 1984, the Atlantic Region's Scientific Services Division acquired two MSI/66 Portable Data Terminals to determine if devices such as these could be used for acquisition of climate and other data. For the climate network, this option appears attractive because the time consuming task of data entry at the regional centres could be eliminated, resulting in a savings in labour and reducing considerably the lag between the observation and publication of data"--Introduction.
