Calibration and testing of a Fischer & Porter precipitation gauge and data logging system / W.G. Richards, B.L. Flynn and M.A.P. Webber.En57-53/2-87E-PDF

"Precipitation is a fundamental climatological parameter which is observed at several thousand sites in Canada. A variety of instruments and techniques are used depending on the anticipated use of the data and the resources available for collection. Recently there has been an increasing demand for automatic precipitation measuring devices which are compatible with the new breed of electronic data loggers. Few sensors exist which can be used to measure precipitation (liquid or frozen) as well as provide a signal which is compatible with a data logger. In order to satisfy this requirement, a conventional Fischer & Porter weighing type precipitation gauge was interfaced to a commercially available data logger. Laboratory and field tests have been conducted to assess the performance of this interface. This report will describe the equipment used, tests of a potentiometer based interface, tests of a pulse generator type interface, a field test of the potentiometer interface and the conclusions and recommendations of the experiments"--Introduction.
