Report on field samples and data collected by the Aquaculture Monitoring Program in Pacific Region, 2022 / by Jackson W.F. Chu, Laura Bianucci, Justin D. Trueman, Nick Mercer, Blair Fraser, Adam McFee,...Fs97-13/1428E-PDF

"The Aquaculture Monitoring Program (AMP) is a national Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) program initiated in 2017 to detect and quantify chemical and biological changes in far-field areas neighboring aquaculture finfish and shellfish aquaculture sites in Canada and to track these variations over the long-term. This report outlines sampling methods, design, and data resulting from field surveys of finfish aquaculture sites done by DFO's Pacific region in 2022. During these trips, AMP sampling protocols were used to survey two sites: AMP site F06 (in August and December) and AMP site F05 (in December). Surveys followed the pre-established two-dimensional, distance-stratified grid of sampling stations. Across all surveys, 163 stations were sampled for sediment grain size, drugs, pesticides, antibiotics, trace metals, and total organic content. Total dissolved sulfides in sediment porewater were also measured in all stations using two methods (UV and methylene blue). Thirty sediment grabs were collected at site F06 for characterization of benthic macrofauna communities in August. Two Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers were deployed on moorings in tandem with CTDs on June 14, 2022, in the study region to collect validation data on current velocity for oceanographic models. A pilot study that included sampling for antimicrobial resistance in benthic sediment was also conducted with samples collected at two stations, one each at F05 and F06, in December"--Abstract, page vi.
