"How can we, as federal public servants, be actors in reconciliation? This report describes a knowledge sharing experience between a multidisciplinary research team from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and the Innu of Pessamit. At the Uauilatau Atiku Parlons caribou! Exhibition held in Pessamit on March 21, 2024, teams from the Laurentian Forestry Centre (LFC) set up booths to explain their research on caribou habitat conducted as part of a collaborative project; however, knowledge transfer was bidirectional. The LFC participants learned about Indigenous realities, such as the cultural importance of caribou, relationships to the land and the suffering associated with colonial history. This experience could change their professional practices and ways of doing science in the future. It also provides an example that may inspire the changes needed in the way scientific research is carried out, in line with the Government of Canada’s journey towards reconciliation, decolonization and co-creation"--Abstract, page 4.
