"The distribution of landings of coho salmon in relation to the size of the commercial fishing fleet was investigated on an annual basis during 1967-1981. An average of 1523 gillnetters accounted for 90% of the total landings in any year. Seventy-five percent of the vessels participating in the gillnet fishery landed less than 200 coho salmon annually. The top 50% of the vessels participating in the gill net fishery accounted for 88% of the total annual landings. An average of 291 purse seiners accounted for 90% of the landings, and 46% of the seiners landed less than 500 pieces annually. The top 50% of the seiners accounted for 85% of the total annual landings. An average of 1334 trollers accounted for 90% of the total annual landings of coho salmon. About 75% of all vessels participating in the troll fishery for coho salmon landed less than 1000 pieces annually. The top 50% of the vessels that landed troll-caught coho salmon accounted for 92% of the total annual landings"--Abstract, page iv.
