"Coded wire tagging of seaward migrant coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) and steelhead trout (Salmo gairdneri) smolts was carried out at three sites in the Chemainus River system, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, to provide information on the ocean migration and exploitation of these stocks. In 1977, 5720 coho smolts were tagged with code 2/3/5. In 1978, 15,969 coho smolts (codes 2/20/32 and 2/20/42) and 836 steelhead smolts (code 12/16/21) were tagged. Trapping sites and methods are described. Differences between streams in smolt production, size and migration timing are also discussed"--Abstract, page i
