"Exploratory fishing for salmon on the high seas was again carried out in 1958 by Canada as part of this nation's contribution to the I.N.P.F.C. program of research on problems raised by the Protocol. The purposes of this fishing are to contribute information on the general distribution and abundance of the various species of salmon in the North Pacific and to collect samples which will assist in determining the respective ocean areas occupied by salmon originating in the fresh waters of North America and Asia"--Introduction, page [1].
