Environmental and ecological indicators of the coastal marine waters near Igluligaarjuk (Chesterfield Inlet), Nunavut (GenIce 2019 and Arctic Coast 2023-2024) / by Darcy G. McNicholl, Ryan Galley, Zou...: Fs97-6/3684E-PDF
"The community of Igluligaarjuk (Chesterfield Inlet), located in the Kivalliq Region, is adjacent to a culturally and ecologically important coastal area found within the Southampton Island Area of Interest (SHI AOI). In order to address scientific knowledge gaps, this report combines data gathered from two research programs 1) the Arctic Coast community-based monitoring program in 2023 and 2024 and 2) The Genomics and Ice (GenIce) project conducted in 2019. Arctic Coast is a collaborative program among Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and Canadian Arctic community leadership that is designed to enhance capacity among Arctic communities to monitor the coastal environment, pilot fieldwork, and address community priorities. The GenIce project was designed to develop a reliable baseline along the Kivalliq transportation corridor in preparation for the possibility of an oil and/or fuel spill. Among the Arctic Coast and GenIce field programs, environmental indicators relevant to core oceanography, ice and snow, and benthic habitat were collected and are summarized in this report. The aim of this report is to summarize all available marine and estuarine data for Chesterfield Inlet to inform management decisions for the SHI AOI"--Abstract, page x.
