"Chemicals toxic to lampreys and used in the stream treatments in the current program of lamprey control in the Great Lakes were discovered by a team of scientists working under the supervision of Dr. V. C. Applegate at the Hammond Bay Laboratory of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. In 1959-1960, while seconded to the Hammond Bay Laboratory by the Biological Station, London, the author carried out a series of experiments to determine the effect of pH on the biological activity of two of these chemicals (3-trifluormethyl-4-nitrophenol and 3, 4, 6-trichloro-2-nitrophenol)"--Page [1].
