5203 |a"Catch and effort statistics for Pacific Fishery Management Area 12 and the upper portion of Area 13 are presented for July and August, 1991. The statistics were derived by a combination of access point and roving creel surveys. This was the first year creel surveys were conducted in these Areas and the coverage was limited to July and August. During this period in Area 12, anglers conducted an estimated 23,388 boat trips and kept 43,978 pink, 25,278 coho, 5,075 chinook, 2,344 sockeye and 499 chum salmon, as well as 13,077 rockfish and 710 lingcod. For the same period in the upper portion of Area 13, anglers made 593 boat trips and kept 1,058 pink, 82 coho, 58 sockeye, 12 chinook, 81 rockfish and 91 lingcod. Based on comparison with overflight effort estimates, it was estimated that the creel surveys underestimated effort by 8% to 20%. Among salmon examined for marks, 5.6% of chinook and 2.3% of coho had adipose fin clips. The chinook catch consisted of 37% age 3 fish, 35% age 4, 18% age 5 and older and 10% age 2 fish"--Abstract, page x.
