"Competition seems to be the keynote of the modern struggle for existence. In practically all branches of industry we find competitors, each striving to sell his wares to a common market, a market which sometimes seems to be hopelessly overfed. Marketing boards have been set up to fix prices and to balance supply with demand. But unfortunately, in spite of marketing boards, the principle still tends to hold: when the demand is limited, as is usually the case, the larger the number of competitors the smaller the average profit of each"--Page [1].
