"The National Plumbing Code of Canada (NPC) is one of the five National Model Codes, along with the National Building Code of Canada (NBC), the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB), the National Fire Code of Canada (NFC) and the National Farm Building Code of Canada (last updated in 1995). In Canada, provincial and territorial governments have the authority to enact legislation that regulates the design and installation of plumbing systems within their jurisdictions. This legislation may involve the adoption of the NPC without change or with modifications to suit local needs, and the enactment of other laws and regulations regarding plumbing system design and installation. Persons involved in the design or installation of plumbing systems should consult the provincial or territorial jurisdiction concerned to confirm what requirements are applicable"--Preface, page v.
