The contract net protocol : high-level communication and control in a distributed problem solver / R.G. Smith ; approved by R.F. Brown.D68-18/2-1982E-PDF

"The contract net protocol has been developed to specify problem-solving communications and control for the nodes in a distributed problem solver. Task distribution is effected by contract negotiation. It is based on a discussion carried on between a node with a task to be executed and a group of nodes that may be able to execute the task. We present the specifications of the protocol and demonstrate its use in the solution of a problem in distributed sensing"--Abstract, page ii.
