Factors influencing the application of a satellite remote sensing-based benthic mapping approach / James V. Marcaccio, Jesse Gardner-Costa, Paul J. Blanchfield, Cindy Chu, Eva C. Enders, Neil Mochnacz,...: Fs97-6/3692E-PDF
"Substrates are an important component of fish habitat but are poorly mapped in many freshwater ecosystems, partially due to the materials and access required by manual observation or boat-based methodologies, which satellite imagery can potentially circumvent. Previous studies have confirmed the validity of a satellite remote sensing-based approach in coastal marine waters but comparable work in smaller freshwater systems is required. In the present work, we applied a remote sensing-based approach to discriminate substrate types at ten freshwater sites that had existing water quality and field validation data"--Abstract, page xi.
