"Plankton studies are becoming increasingly important as a basis for consideration of the early life-histories of valuable commercial fish. They are also important in the study of egg and larval mortalities and in the outlining of spawning concentrations of adults. The apparent lack of cod larvae in the Gulf (which has been observed before) is reemphasized, although no single solution can be offered as yet"--page 1.
