Fauna collected during surveys for larval lampreys in Lake Superior in 1959, 1960 and 1961 / M.L.H. Thomas.: Fs52-2/803E-PDF
"The larval lampreys which will be described as ammocoetes in this report are fossorial benthic animals. To discover their presence, bottom sediments were examined by several methods or the ammocoetes were made to leave the bottom in some way and were taken in the water above. Because of these collecting methods, the faunal collections described in this report consist mainly of benthos. However, many animals living in the water close to the bottom were also collected, particularly in locations close to shore. Few of the collections were truly quantitative in nature, and most will be treated in a purely qualitative manner"--page 1.
