Moored current and hydrographic measurements from the RAPID WAVE Scotian Line, 2008 to 2018 / by John W. Loder, Yuri Geshelin, Miguel Angel Morales Maqueda, Igor Yashayaev, Shane Elipot, and Chris W. Hughes.Fs97-18/398E-PDF

"Moored measurements of currents, temperature, salinity and bottom pressure made at 6 sites across the Scotian Slope and Rise between October 2008 and May 2018 are summarized with respect to positions and periods; data return, quality and availability; and salient features. The measurements were part of the Western Atlantic Variability Experiment of the Rapid Climate Change program funded by the United Kingdom's Natural Environment Research Council and led by the Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory, in partnership with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. The measurement sites were in water depths ranging from 1100m to 3900m near the Halifax Line and its deep-water extension (XHL), where DFO was carrying out hydrographic monitoring which facilitated the field operations and complemented the moored datasets. There were 5 deployments of 9-21 months duration at the 6 primary mooring sites between 2008 and 2014, and 2 additional deployments of 19-24 months duration at 4 of the sites until 2018. The primary instrumentation at each site was an upward-looking Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) at 50 m above bottom (mab), a MicroCAT (MC) temperature-conductivity-pressure recorder at 100 mab, and a bottom pressure recorder (BPR), with additional MCs up to 1100m below the surface at the deepest site during the first 4 deployments. A total of 34 ADCPs, 74 MCs and 34 BPRs returned good data. Example displays of the moored time series, temperature-salinity sections and sea surface temperature composites from the concurrent DFO monitoring, and concatenations with earlier moored time series are provided"--Abstract, page vii.
