"This report is the data record for the fourth of a series of surveys planned to describe the oceanography of the northeast Pacific Ocean. These studies are designed to describe the physical and chemical environment, water masses and currents and their seasonal and yearly fluctuations, in the region of importance to salmon. It is part of Canada's contribution to the research program of the International North Pacific Fisheries Commission in the North Pacific Ocean. This survey, made during the period July 23rd to August 30th, 1957, covered the area from latitude 43°N north to the Alaskan coast, and from the North American coast west to longitude 163°W. In all, 65 oceanographic stations were occupied. Details of the observations made are given in following sections"--Introduction, page 1.
