"A series of twenty-nine impacts using the HyGe Crash Simulator at the Impact Studies Facility of the Defence and Civil Institute of Environmental Medicine (DCIEM) was performed in order to determine the effectiveness of a variety of seat cushion materials in preventing spinal injuries during high accelerative loading. These commonly occur during helicopter crashes with relatively large vertical velocity components, hard landings of Schweizer training gliders, and ejections from jet aircraft"--Abstract, page iv.
