The report tabularizes and graphically presents information on the distribution, abundance, size, and age composition of oysters collected in 1969 and 1970. In 1969 , oyster density over the survey area ranged from 0-228 m². Fifty-one percent of the sampling stations yielded oysters, 2 yr olds representing 56.2% of the population, being most abundant. One year olds represented only 13.4% of the 1969 population. In 1970, when only the area of greatest fishing activity was surveyed, oyster density ranged from 23-210 m², with 1 yr old oysters representing 44.9% of the population and 2 yr olds 15.8%. Size frequency histograms for individual stations indicated that, in both 1969 and 1970, spatfall settlement and survival were more regular in the principal fishing areas than in other areas of the Estuary"--Abstract, page iv. |
