Population survey of the oyster Crassostrea virginica in the Dunk River Estuary, Prince Edward Island, 1977 / by C.M. Hawkins and T.W. Rowell.Fs97-4/1863E-PDF

"This is the final report in a series of seven which examine temporal changes in the oyster population of the Dunk River, Prince Edward Island. The report tabularizes and graphically presents information on the distribution, abundance, size, and age composition of oysters collected in 1977. Oyster density ranged from 0-878 m⁻². Fifty-eight percent of the sample stations yielded oysters, 1 yr old oysters representing 61.8% of the population being most abundant. Two, 3, and 4 yr old and older oysters accounted for 16.4%, 8.1% and 3.7% of the sample population respectively. Size frequency histograms for individual stations indicated that spatfall settlement and survival appeared regular throughout the area sampled"--Abstract, page iv.
