"The sea cucumber (Cucumaria frondosa) fishery is a recent activity in the Estuary and northern Gulf of St. Lawrence. Exploratory permits were issued for the coastal waters of the northern shore of the Gaspé Peninsula (Fishing areas A, B, and C) in 2008 and in the waters of the Mingan Archipelago (Fishing area 3) in 2009. An experimental licence was also issued for the waters of the Lower North Shore in 2017. The fishery transitioned to commercial status in areas B and C in 2024. The fishery is carried out either by diving or with a modified LGS-type dredge or a dredge designed specifically for sea cucumbers"--Context, page [1].
