5203 |a"The Magnetic Anomaly Detection Group at DREP is studying the feasibility of using SQUID magnetic gradiometers in airborne antisubmarine warfare. As part of this project, a non-magnetic towbody has been built to carry a vertical gradiometer in an airborne trial of SQUID systems. The towbody is essentially a circular cylinder with the air flow perpendicular to the cylinder axis. We describe the characteristics of the towbody that were observed during a flight test. The results presented include drag, static pitch, towbody oscillations and acceleration spectra. We conclude that the towbody can be used for a trial of a gradiometer"--Abstract (page i).
