"Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) conducted an ecosystem-based trawl survey in the Strait of Georgia and associated waters from September 16 to 30, 2024 on the CCGS Sir John Franklin. This study targeted juvenile Pacific Salmon (Oncorhynchus spp.). In 88 tows, there were 24 species caught in 1,655 kg of catch, with 38% juvenile Pacific Salmon caught by weight (635.89 kg). Juvenile Coho Salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch), adult Chum Salmon (Oncorhynchus keta), and adult Coho Salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) were the most abundant catch by weight. There were 3,573 individual lengths and 3,315 individual weights recorded, including all 5 Pacific Salmon species. Juvenile salmon species caught, in decreasing catch weight, were: Coho Salmon, Chinook Salmon, Chum Salmon, Pink Salmon and Sockeye Salmon, with catch distribution varied based on species. Common prey species for juvenile Pacific Salmon included unidentified fishes, crabs, euphausiids and other zooplankton. Biological samples for genetic stock composition, otoliths, energy density, and coded wire tags are archived at the Pacific Biological Station, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (Nanaimo, BC). Associated information on the physical oceanography (37 locations), water samples for chemistry and chlorophyll a along with zooplankton samples (38 locations) were returned to the Institute of Ocean Sciences (DFO, Sidney, BC)"--Abstract, page v.
