"Northern river basin surface waters receiving industrial and municipal effluents were analyzed for compounds observed previously in the screening of the effluents by broad spectrum analysis of organic compounds using coupled gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Only phthalate esters, aliphatic hydrocarbons and fatty acids, as their methyl esters, were observed in the surface waters. Analysis of characteristic traces constructed from single ion chromatograms extracted from GC-MS data showed no patterns consistent with those observed previously in effluents"--Report summary.
