520 |a"As part of the Geo-mapping for Energy and Minerals (GEM) Program, the Geological Survey of Canada has initiated a surficial geological mapping activity in the Wager Bay region of mainland Nunavut west of Repulse Bay (Fig. 1). The project area lies within the western Churchill Geological Province where active precious and base metal exploration is ongoing. The Ukkusiksalik National Park encompasses the central part of the area. This region includes a variety of Quaternary glacial and postglacial landforms and sediments yet, only limited Quaternary mapping and field-based observations are available. This project will fill in major knowledge gaps and better constrain the Quaternary geology of the region which will contribute to effective management of the terrain and interpretation of mineral and park resources"--Introduction, page 1.
