"This edition of population projections for Canada, the provinces and territories comes at a time of rapid demographic change, including historically low fertility rates and several recent changes in immigration and temporary resident policies. The medium- and long-term consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic remain uncertain, despite a return to increases in life expectancy in 2023 and 2024. The methods selected and assumptions made aim to produce results that are both plausible and indicative of the uncertainty associated with developing population projections in a changing context.
