"Experiments were conducted during the 1981 herring food fishery in the Strait of Georgia to determine recovery rates for external anchor tags in processing plants and to determine whether some tags are lost during the transfer of catches. Tag recovery rates were estimated at 35% for the fishery but were as high as 76% for individual trials and 68% for processing plants. There were indications that 25% of tags may be lost during the loading of the catch by pumps. The bulk of the recoveries were made during the sorting of the catch"--Abstract, page iii.
