"Canada recognized adequate housing as a fundamental human right in the 2019 National Housing Strategy Act (NHSA). Canada’s housing crisis continues to deepen. Over 4.8 million homes are needed to restore affordability, rents are rising in double digits in most major cities, and homelessness continues to grow. More than 60% of evictions are “no fault,” meaning tenants lose their housing despite having done nothing wrong.
