"The restoration of environmental resources and services has been recognised as essential to providing Canadians with a healthy and sustainable environment. Successful restoration requires a commitment to pursuing legal and compensatory actions, judicial awareness of the role of the Environmental Damages Fund, a comprehensive and coordinated approach to damage assessment and restoration, an understanding of the values of resources and services and a decision-making protocol for the distribution and use of the Fund. Following the discussion of the 1997 Assessment and Restoration of Environmental Damages in the Atlantic Region workshop, this report surveys these issues and recommends possible courses for policy development and action"--Executive summary.
