2023 abundance estimate and harvest advice for beluga in Cumberland Sound.: Fs70-6/2026-042E-PDF

"There are two beluga (Delphinapterus leucas) populations that summer in Cumberland Sound (DFO 2022), but aerial surveys are unable to distinguish them. Therefore, co-management partners manage the beluga whales in Cumberland Sound as a single stock. An aerial survey of beluga whales in Cumberland Sound was conducted in August 2023 as part of the High Arctic Cetacean Survey. DFO Fisheries Management has requested an updated population abundance estimate based on the 2023 aerial survey and information on the probability that the abundance of beluga whales summering in Cumberland Sound will decline in 10 years under a range of harvest scenarios"--Context, page [1].
