Development and application of a resilience framework to assess climate consideration in Canadian fisheries management / Kayla M. Hamelin, Karen L. Hunter, Nancy L. Shackell, Daniel G. Boyce, Blair J.W....: Fs97-6/3815E-PDF
"Managing living natural resources in a changing climate is a complex challenge requiring consideration of all available capacities and resources. We developed an institution-based resilience framework and survey tool designed to assess how Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) commercial fish stock management is situated to respond to climate change... The assessment output helps identify challenges and opportunities for improving fisheries management adaptation preparedness, at the individual stock level and, more broadly, from a resilience planning perspective. The Maritimes FiMACC pilot allowed for the operationalization of this assessment, providing valuable insights into how to refine the survey and demonstrating its potential utility for tracking adaptation over time, in other DFO regions, or in other jurisdictions. Overall, the FiMACC framework and survey approach demonstrates the value of institutional self-assessment in supporting resilient and adaptive fisheries management"--Abstract, page iv.
