"This paper examines whether introducing a market microstructure variable (that is, order flow) into a set of daily observations of macroeconomic variables (interest rate, crude oil price) together with an ANN technique can explain Canada/U.S. dollar exchange rate movement better than linear and random walk models. Two statistics are used to compare models: root-mean squared error (RMSE) and the percentage of correctly predicted exchange rate changes (PERC)."--Introduction.

Phase I consisted of a survey of practitioners in the private and regulatory sectors and Phase II consisted of a round robin study. "Understanding this phase of labour market careers is important for several reasons. First, university education is a long and costly investment. Changes in the time it takes to gain steady employment afterwards have immediate effects on the returns to education and may therefore have long-term consequences for skill accumulation. Second, since young people have more fluid employment statuses, their experiences can also amplify larger trends affecting all workers... Finally, since completion of a university degree appears to fundamentally alter a person's labour market opportunities, unemployment rates and other aggregate statistics that average over new and older graduates do not adequately convey the post-graduation experience. Duration analysis is therefore particularly useful for understanding the school-to-work transition."--Introduction.

«Il importe de comprendre ce stade de la carrière des gens pour plusieurs raisons. Premièrement, les études universitaires représentent un investissement long et coûteux. Les variations de la durée de recherche d'un emploi stable après les études ont des effets immédiats sur la rétribution de l'éducation et peuvent donc présenter des conséquences à long terme sur le plan de l'accumulation des compétences. Deuxièmement, comme les jeunes ont une activité plus instable sur le marché du travail, leur expérience peut être l'écho amplifié des tendances générales qui influent sur l'ensemble de la main-d'oeuvre... Enfin, comme l'acquisition d'un grade universitaire semble devoir radicalement modifier les perspectives qui s'offrent aux gens sur le marché du travail, les taux de chômage et autres statistiques globales qui livrent des moyennes pour les classes nouvelles et anciennes de diplômés ne rendent pas suffisamment compte de l'expérience que vivent les gens après l'obtention du diplôme.
