To mark the occasion, the Library of Parliament decided to reconstitute the parliamentary debates for those years before the official records were kept. For the Senate this meant the reconstruction and publication of the debates from 1867 to 1871. The work was undertaken by Erik Spicer, the Parliamentary Librarian at the time; and the Senate debates for these years were duly completed and published between 1968 and 1980.
