The Canadian Forest Service prepared this document to compile studies that may help clarify the effects of soil temperature and site preparation on subalpine and boreal species. It separates references into studies done with and without site preparation. These are then subdivided into studies under controlled conditions and in the field. The goal is to aid in the identification of sites and conditions in which site preparation may not be effective in improving the performance of planted seedlings in these climates. The more than 300 references emphasize the North American experience, but include some relevant studies from Fennosandia.
