Will give readers a brief overview of economic development in northern remote communities and anticipated labour and skills shortages. Section 2 outlines the challenges to skills development in these communities. Section 3 outlines potential ways of responding to the challenges outlined in Section 2. Subsection 3A addresses five priority policy areas: the mismatch between supply and demand for skills; the need for skills development and trades training; the need to improve educational and employment outcomes of Aboriginal Peoples living in northern remote communities; the importance of broadband access; and the regulatory process. Finally, subsection 3B showcases some of the many best practices that were shared with the Committee.
