"International Pectinid Workshops are held biennally and provide a forum for open and free discussion on a wide spectrum of topics concerning scallops. The 9th International Pectinid Workshop was held in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, 22-27 April 1993 and was attended by 150 people from 17 countries who made 64 oral, 20 poster and 10 video presentations. Presentations were divided into seven categories; growth-physiology-nutrition, mortalities and disease, aquaculture, reproduction and recruitment, genetics, fisheries and general biology. This publication presents the papers or expanded abstracts of papers presented at the 9th International Pectinid Workshop. For practical considerations it is being published in two volumes. The first volume contains those sections on General Biology, Mortalities and Disease, Reproduction and Recruitment and Genetics, the second volume contains those sections on Aquaculture, Fisheries and Growth, Physiology and Nutrition"--Abstract, page vii.
