This book reviews the biology and population dynamics of the harp seal "Phoca groenlandica" Erxleben, one of the most abundant of the world's harp seals which has long been an important resource for peoples living on seasonally ice-bound coasts of the North Atlantic Ocean. The author treats the biology of the species as a whole, on the coasts of Eastern Canada, Greenland and northern Europe, and discusses the history of the hunt in all these regions.
