Québec: a French colonial town in America, 1660 to 1690 / by Rémi Chénier. : R61-2/9-51E

In this book the author examines the history of Québec from the perspective of urbanization in the 17th century. After reviewing the concept of "ville" - in "ancien régime" France and in New France -it analyses in detail the Québec administration, and particularly the various by-laws enacted at the time. The study also discusses the urban landscape and lot concessions, as well as the exterior components of urban houses. Finally it considers the population and the work force, especially the principal trades involved in house construction.
