520 | 3 |aTen toposequences on common landforms of the boreal forests in Manitoba, accompanied by air photostereographs, are described. Seven are representative of the Manitoba Model Forest in southeastern Manitoba, with single examples from the Sandilands, Duck Mountain, and Thompson areas. The toposequences are composites of transects and sample plots used for the development of the Manitoba Forest Ecosystem Classification. Each toposequence describes and graphically presents typical associations of forest types and soil conditions that change along topographic gradients. Because of their representativeness and potential to illustrate complex ecological relationships, toposequences can be useful in vegetation and soil mapping, as well as in forest-management considerations. This book includes a glossary of technical terms, an appendix of common and scientific names of plants, and a complete listing of Manitoba vegetation and soil types. |
