The principal objective of this paper is to explore the reasons for these rural-urban differences in female employment rates while focusing also on differences in the degree of persistence or continuity in female employment patterns. In particular, using Canadian panel data from the Survey of Labour Income and Dynamics, we compare rural and urban samples using a dynamic model of female employment.--Page 1
